FIBA EuroBasket 2022

Georgia has been hosting the European Basketball Championship 2022 since 1 September, which was broadcast live on the FIRST CHANNEL of  Georgian Public Broadcasting.  

The Georgian basketball team was beaten by the Belgian national team in the first game with a slight difference of 76:79 (including overtime). The game started at 20:50 Tbilisi time and was watched by an average of 111 thousand viewers per minute. During the match, 26% of the total viewers were directed to  the FIRST CHANNEL of  Georgian Public Broadcasting.  

The second match took place on 3 September, against the favorite team of group A, Spain  and ended with a score of 90:64 in favor of Spain. The match was watched by an average of 95,000 people per minute on television, as a result share of  the  FIRST CHANNELof  Georgian Public Broadcasting  was 23%.

The third game of EuroBasket 2022 took place in Georgia on 4 September. The Georgian basketball team won against Turkey with a score of 88:83 (including 2 overtime). The live broadcast of the game started at 21:00 Tbilisi time and was watched by an average of 119,000 viewers per minute, as a result, the share of the FIRST CHANNEL of  Georgian Public Broadcasting  in the total number of  viewers increased to 27%. 

68% of the viewers of the mentioned matches were from Tbilisi, and 32% were from the region. Regarding the age distribution of viewers of the matches, the channel had the largest number of viewers, 23%, in the category of men aged 45-62 years, and in the case of women, the highest percentage (16%) - in the age category 18-45 years. As a result of the broadcast of all three matches the audience rate of the FIRST CHANNEL of  Georgian Public Broadcasting increased and ranked second position in the list of TV channels. 

The data is based on Tbilisi and 6 cities of Georgia (Rustavi, Gori, Batumi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Poti), where “Tri Media Intelligence” operates TAM panel. Data is taken from the population above 4 years including guests and time shifted viewing in the households.
